DirecTV Now, 100 Live Streaming Channels For On $35
I know things have been a little on the quiet side around here lately. I apologize for that, but Theaterverse is largely a one man show (although I welcome requests to contribute) and getting a podcast off the ground is a lot of work. That being said, the news I heard today is so awesome I just had to share it.
It seems that AT&T owned DirecTV is about to become a major thorn in the big cable company’s side. They have announced a new streaming TV platform called DirecTV Now that delivers 100 streaming channels of live tv for just $35. It even includes unlimited streaming data to use it on mobile, as long as you are on AT&T of course. Unfortunately, details on the new service are sparse so far. What we do know is that some of the channels that will be included are A&E, Fox, and some heavy hitters like Disney and the NFL Sunday Ticket. We also know that streaming will be limited to one or two streams at a time. This could quickly become a problem if you have a few different people in your household who all want to watch something different at the same time.
Despite the limitations, the DirecTV Now’s amount of content for the price makes it particularly attractive. Dish Networks Sling TV service offers only around 25 channels for $25, and Playstation Vue will set you back over $50 for the same amount of channels. Other details about the service such as supported platforms have not been announced, but it is probably a safe bet that iOS and Android will be among the supported OSs.
It looks like 2016 might be the year where Internet delivered pay TV might actually be a viable way to get your fix of the boob tube. I know I am excited by the possibilities. How about you? Sound off below.
