Sling TV Gets Windows 10 App, Starz & Pac-12 Add-ons
Sling TV, Dish Network’s streaming television platform has made a few neat announcements this week. Firstly, Sling TV is getting its very own free Windows 10 compatible app. This move enables a few unique features that aren’t available in the legacy desktop app. If you pin the app to the start menu as a live tile, it will show content from your “favorites” and “continue watching” ribbons. Voice searching for shows can now be done with Cortana (Microsoft’s virtual assistant.) The new app also enables touch compatibility, a responsive UI that can change sizes based on your screen size and available viewing area, and a Windows 10 style vertical menu.
The new app looks pretty nice and is available now in the Windows Store. If you haven’t given Sling TV a try yet, there is a 7 day free trial available. No word on whether or not the new app supports remote control input for a lean-back experience. If you have given it a try, let us know in the comments below.
The other big announcements from the Sling TV camp come in the form of more add-on content. STARZ in now available for an additional $9 a month (after a free preview period,) bringing with it a ton of movies, on-demand content, and original series such as the fantastically fun horror comedy, Ash vs. Evil Dead which alone justifies the cost of admission.
If college sports are more your thing, Sling has added all 6 PAC-12 stations to their $5 Sports Extra package. Sling TV’s basic package includes ESPN and ESPN2 and the Sports Extra add-on already includes beIN SPORTS, ESPN Goal Line, ESPN Bases Loaded, ESPN Buzzer Beater, Campus Insiders, Outside Television, Motors TV North American, & Univision Deportes. Not a bad amount of content for the sports nuts amongst you!
Theaterverse will be doing a review on Sling TV shortly, so be sure to check back!
