Bill Nye Returning To TV… Sort Of
That’s right 90’s kids, your favorite tv scientist (Although I am old enough to be kind of partial to Mr. Wizard) will be returning to TV in the form of a new talk show on Netflix. The show, entitled Bill Nye Saves The World will be launching in the Spring of 2017 and will be “dispelling myths, and refuting anti-scientific claims that may be espoused by politicians, religious leaders or titans of industry.” The Netflix original is being lead by showrunner Michael Naidus who has produced The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn.
In the last few years Bill Nye has managed to reinvent himself from a loveable TV scientist who teaches children about the way the world works to an outspoken critic of nonsense (and lover of bow-ties.) His harsh and biting criticisms of GMOs, Creationism, Pseudoscience and even Noah’s Ark has had a profound impact with some even claiming Nye “Deserve[s] Hell!”
“Since the start of the Science Guy show, I’ve been on a mission to change the world by getting people everywhere excited about the fundamental ideas in science. Today, I’m excited to be working with Netflix on a new show, where we’ll discuss the complex scientific issues facing us today, with episodes on vaccinations, genetically modified foods and climate change. With the right science and good writing, we’ll do our best to enlighten and entertain our audience. And, perhaps we’ll change the world a little.”-Bill Nye
By the looks of things we can expect more of Nye’s classic hard-nosed pro-scientific knowledge, and refusal to put up with bull. Bill will be conducting experiments, bringing in special guests and discussing the claims made against science the way only he can.
As crazy as the world is today, I think we could all use at least one shining beacon of facts in an otherwise murky sea of half-truths and all out lies. I, for one, am looking forward to it… as long as it has the Bill Nye The Science Guy theme song!
