Youtube Channel Highlight: Today I Found Out
Many cord cutters are beginning to move away from the paradigm of broadcast TV. Personally, I have been incorporating a good bit of Youtube content into my regular “TV” viewing. Youtube is not just the realm of teeny boppers talking about what they had for lunch that day anymore. There are highly professional and well done youtube channels producing content that could easily rival a cable network. In today’s Youtube channel highlight we will be looking at one such channel: Today I Found Out.
The Today I Found Out Youtube channel features interesting tidbits of information and less than well known facts. The productions are done extremely well, and presented by a a charming British man from Prague by the name of Simon Whistler. The guy is seriously a terrific host and could easily be on a real television show.
The channel features an “infotainment” format, not unlike something you might see on the discovery channel. The segments are typically short, only clocking in at a few minutes each, but they upload new content 7 days a week. That is a lot of useless knowledge!
The Today I Found Out channel is a companion of the website TodayIFoundOut.com. There, in addition to the videos, you can find articles on more interesting facts, the Daily Knowledge podcast, and a link to buy their book called the Wise Book Of Whys (made of actual dead trees if you want! They also have it in ebook format and even an audiobook read by none other than our favorite bespectacled Brit above.)
Some of the topics they have covered are:
- Why zippers have YKK on them
- The color of carrots before the 1700s
- Whether or not cow farts have an effect on global warming
- The reason Gold Medalists bite their medals
- Why chocolate is bad for dogs
- What causes blisters
- Why some people are lactose intolerant
- Why the earth is hottest when it is furthest away from the Sun
- How Dick became short for Richard
- and many many more
With indispensable knowledge like this every single day, subscribing to this channel could possibly make you the smartest person on earth… or at least kind of handy at bar trivia on Monday nights.
